I had the pleasure of seeing the new production of Uncle Vanya last night at The Classic Stage Company starring Denis O'Hare, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Peter Saarsgard. The acting was truthful and bewitching. I couldn't help but sit forward in my chair for most of the performance.
I think what I take away from it most is how well the universality of Chekov came across. The play is timeless and it didn't feel stuck up or pretentious as classic work can when not directed well.
Go-go now, get a ticket, and think a little.
